@bazmataz I think you’re spot-on. Given the title of the book, I think it’s targeted to people who are trying to sell things.

I recently received a telegram about this social media thing. I guess all the kids are doing it.

Is this video talkin about the interwebs?

  7. I was simply referring to one’s ability to choose to be swayed by all the advertising! One can be mesmerized by it and become the mega consumers the advertisers wish to cultivate, OR one can use one’s free thinking to make well-informed choices in freedom. Hope this helps answer your questions.

This is a sales pitch video. PR and marketing agencies would like you to believe that they have a ticket on the new brand success train, and old school brands better hit them up before it pulls out of the station. What they’re not telling you is that social media is a zero sum game and will reach a saturation point eventually. It’s great now, but people will get sick of it and distrust it as soon as there’s 100 face books, twitters, etc.

  9. How exactly is social networking not free thinking?

  10. I don’t have a facebook or myspace and I’m proud of it.

  11. umm….did anyone ever think about the fact that we can choose not to become involved with social networking? If we don’t like what we see coming down the road, then GET OUT OF THE ROAD!! Perhaps we can work on cultivating free-thinking in ourselves, duh!

Many rings to find them; one large ring to bind them ( apologies to Tolkien).

It is a scary development in human history

  14. bazmataz says:

The idea behind this video is that social networking sites should be used by corporations to sell us even more things we don’t need. That’s not a revolution.

  15. I’m about to become a statistic by posting this video on Facebook.

  16. love that video! wow that’s powerful!

Excellent vid. Its so true, I was targeted by a movie that stars Norman Reedus called The Beatnicks. I am a fan of the boondock saints and they found me because he is in that movie to. The Beatnicks has not even come out yet. Cool marketing and not annoying and I was interested. Can’t knock social media from a customers point of view either.

Also, did you not understand that this video was mainly geared towards business owners. Urging business owners to take part in the social media “craze’ is something lots of PR and Advertising guys are trying to do.. Not because they can, because it will make an impact in the business owner’s brand if they do it, and do it right.

  22. PowerNubby says:

wordmuse… As with anything that connects people to other people, you have to take the good and the bad. Think about BARS. When the local pub opened its doors it was a great way to meet people and interact with people you might not have met in the past.. But then, as the bar ages, there are cliques and alcoholics and all of that..

Same with social media.. its human driven, and because humans are suck messed up creatures, you have to take the good and the bad.
